Ben & Jerry’s is celebrating its annual “Free Cone Day” on April 4 this year.
From 12 to 8 p.m., the Vermont-based company will hand out free cones of ice cream at its Scoop Shop locations all over the world. Customers will be able to select classic favors or “something new,” according to a press release.
“We believe in having fun, and in thanking our fans with free ice cream for our anniversary every year,” Ben & Jerry’s CEO Jostein Solheim said in a statement. “Through the power of ice cream, we are able to form strong connections and create positive social change together. Free Cone Day is one way to show our fans how much we appreciate them.”
Free Cone Day started back in 1979 after the then-fledgling company managed to survive its first year of business. The tradition became global by 2000, and Ben & Jerry’s says that it gives away over a million scoops of its trademark ice cream every year.
