Jaylene Cook is at peak social media controversy!

In late April, the Playboy model decided to celebrate her traverse up a New Zealand mountain by posing nude at the top.

But the cheeky photoshoot landed Cook in hot water with a local tribe who believes the mountain to be sacred!

Dennis Ngawhare, an academic and spokesman for the local Maori tribe, says Cook disrespected the peak of Mount Taraniki, a sacred dormant volcano, by displaying her own peaks on top of the summit.

The 25-year-old was touring around New Zealand with her photographer boyfriend Josh Shaw when she disrobed at the top of the mountain — a can’t-miss Instagram opportunity.

This move was deemed by the local tribe as culturally insensitive, and even compared to stripping down in the Vatican! Ngwhare told the BBC:

“I don’t think the picture itself is offensive or obscene — it is just inappropriate to take on top of Mount Taranaki because it is a place with great deal of importance for the Maori community. It’s like someone went into St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican and took a nude photo… It’s a sacred place and something like this is just very inappropriate.”

Noted!

Neil Volzke, mayor of Stratford (a town in the shadow of the peak), echoed Ngawhare’s criticism, telling Tarniki Daily News:

“It’s culturally insensitive and not what I would expect someone to do on the summit of Mt. Taranaki.”

Clearly, they don’t know what lengths people will go to to get that perfect Instagram pic. Let’s hope Kim Kardashian West steers clear of this sacred mountain!

Cook hasn’t respond to the controversy, but she made it clear in her caption she’d never make that rigorous climb again. Check out her full uncensored post (below)!
